One of the oldest wooden buildings in Lithuania, Kurhaus located just a short distance from Vytautas Park. Since opening in 1855, it differed from similar houses. It accommodated no playhouse, no banks, but was opened for classical music concerts. This tradition has survived the times and continues nowadays. When you arrive at Birštonas, climbing Vytautas Hill is a must do. After you climb the 40 m high slope, you will be able to pause for breath on a beautifully arranged rest site. Statue of Vytautas the Great was built from pink granite by sculptor G. Jokūbonis and architect V. Čekanauskas. The sculptor embodied ideas expressed by a majority of Birštonas’ residents - to bring Vytautas and his horse back to their hunting-ground.  Sculptor G. This riverbank, erected in the 1970’s, aimed to protect the resort from the floods; over time it has become the most important promenade in Birštonas. A pedestrian and cycling path 2 km in length along The Nemunas River bank also joins together Vytautas Hill and Birštonas Central Park.  The bank is fitted with benches to have rest and enjoy the quietness of river-gazing. The name of Birštonas was started to be mentioned in 1382, when the Grand Master of the Order of the Teutonic Knights was informed that a homestead was founded by the salty water (near the Nemunas river). It happened almost 500 years before the location was granted official status as a resort! A tasteful church in Neo-Gothic style made from red bricks has embellished Birštonas from the beginning of the twentieth century.
