about

We invite you to visit the exhibition of the Ukrainian artist Yelyzaveta Kravtsova "National codes of the Baltic and Slavic cultures".
The exhibition features silkscreen works on tinted and white paper.

"Analyzing and looking for commonalities between two cultures - Slavic and Baltic - I decided to study the similarities and differences between languages, because the first thing by which we identify a person is language. The Lithuanian language is very original, but some words sound very similar to Ukrainian. There are also words that, although they sound the same as Ukrainian words, have a slightly different letter order. So, illustration dictated that I do the work in the form of posters. I decided to use the Lithuanian words "skrynia", "kalvis" and "thank you".

The work "Skrynia/Скриня" depicts an open chest with a Ukrainian ornament, because this word entered the Lithuanian language from the Ukrainian language. Two dresses come out of the chest, one Lithuanian "Suknelė", the other Ukrainian "Сукня". These words sound similar.

The work "Коваль/Kalvis" depicts the Lithuanian proverb "A good blacksmith will kill a frog." These words sound the same, but the order is different.

The word "Дякую" is pronounced in Lithuanian with one vowel changed - "Dękoju". The poster depicts the peaceful landscape of Lithuania, where many Ukrainians found refuge. We are very grateful to Lithuanians for their help in this difficult time. I also think that Lithuanians are grateful to Ukraine for its strength and protection from the spread of the "Russian world" to the entire civilized world.

This protection is allegorically represented as anti-tank hedgehogs."
