Statue of Vytautas the Great was built from pink granite by sculptor G. Jokūbonis and architect V. Čekanauskas. The sculptor embodied ideas expressed by a majority of Birštonas’ residents - to bring Vytautas and his horse back to their hunting-ground.  Sculptor G. Jokūbonis created a sculpture were Vytautas’ figure blends into a horse figure, this way the sculptor emphasizes Vytautas’s abilities to fight and desire to act. This riverbank, erected in the 1970’s, aimed to protect the resort from the floods; over time it has become the most important promenade in Birštonas. A pedestrian and cycling path 2 km in length along The Nemunas River bank also joins together Vytautas Hill and Birštonas Central Park.  The bank is fitted with benches to have rest and enjoy the quietness of river-gazing. The pine, which is very widely spread on the summer stage, on the very edge of Birštonas Central Park, on the bank of the Nemunas, has been green for more than a hundred years - it is the oldest pine in Birštonas Central Park. The hundred-year-old Žvėrinčius oak has been one of the major tourist attractions until recently. According to legend, the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas rested under his branches during the hunt. However, in 2005, During Hurricane Ervinas, an old man of 1.8 m in diameter and 15 m in height was resting on a moss forest and resting there to this day. Not many people know that Birštonas mineral water resort was a private town until the restoration of independence. What’s even more interesting is that written records of the resort date back to the 14th century when a fortified wooden castle was mentioned in the New Prussian Chronicle by Vygandas Marburgietis (Wigand of Marburg).
