The working hours of the Birštonas observation tower are changing

2023/04/12 Culture

The doors of the Birštonas observation tower are unlocked every day from 06:00 to 21:00. The operating hours of the tower vary according to the time of sunrise and sunset.

The metal structure of the tower, "covered" with larch panels with triangular windows, gives the image of a chapel pillar, and at the same time symbolizes the constellations in the sky. The tower - a quadrangular parallelogram with an openwork roof continues the tradition of Lithuanian defensive architecture, reminds of the shape of the towers of old wooden castles and is related to the later architecture of church belfries. It can also be compared with the chapel pillar and the image of the World Tree. The symbolism of the tower is enlivened by the left openings - small windows for light and landscape panorama, which are like patterns used in wood carving. Birštonas observation tower was designed by architects Donatas Malinauskas and Vytautas Putna.
