about

Fascinated by photography, Ludo Segers was drawn to photography at an early age. His high school days focused on graphics, typography and art. He bought his first SLR camera at the age of 17, a simple and manual analog camera with a standard lens. This allowed him to explore and expand his visual horizons.
In high school, a photojournalist/teacher and his favorite art history teacher encouraged and supported his interest in photography. Ludo began working part-time as a photojournalist and writer for a local newspaper, providing opportunities to continue his narrative, documentary and portrait photography. Most of the photos are described as being at the intersection of fine art and narrative documentary photography. They reflect a high level of awareness, capturing people and scenes, and sometimes magical moments, between tasks, often from privileged locations.
The recent exhibition "Past, present, beginnings" focused on 13 UNESCO heritage sites in Flanders and attracted a large audience intrigued by the first centers of female power. Impressive photographs of historical sites were combined with compelling photographic metaphors about the core values of these places of worship. The more recent Reflections on the Past Present expands on this theme. Ludo's photographs can be seen in publications, galleries, museums, exhibitions and homes around the world. In addition to Ludo's photography work in 2017 was invited to become a mentor for the course "Seeing Through Photography" at the MoMA in New York.
"Ludo Segers' photography reaches out to what lies deep within us. It can make you hear the silence, feel the spirit of places and their loneliness, especially in prayers. The spaces and places in his photographs have an inner life. They reveal the traces of the past and challenge us to recover the essence of our existence", observed Yolita René, the independent curator of the exhibition "Paris-Vilnius, spectacular silence" (about the Covid quarantine in 2020).
Urbanist Laird Ryan, who teaches and directs research at the university's College of Asset Management in Reading, UK, compares Lud's photographs to the form and structure of JS Bach's compositions: "They both employ a unique combination of themes of understated passion and intuitive understanding with apparent contrast and complexity and invite the viewer or listener to a journey into immersive and harmonious expression."
Writer and journalist Justin Šuliokas observed: “Ludo has a way of winning over the people he photographs, creating an instant connection and making them open up to his camera. He likes his models and they like him, a connection that's in the picture and can't be faked."
Former Belgian ambassador to the US Johan Verbeke said: “Ludo Segers captures the world around him in his own way, whether he is inside the White House or on the plains of the far west. His portraits, landscapes and photographs always provide a new perspective and suggest new narratives.”
Stylist Véronique Lejeune wonders: "Is Ludo Segers a photographer or a philosopher?" Probably both. Each photo has a delicate balance that goes beyond what is accurate. Somehow he manages to squeeze some element of intimate time into them. Gaétan Picon described it as: "L'admirable tremblement du temps..." (lit. "admirable tremor of time").
Opening of the exhibition on August 5. 15:00.
