The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has launched a new publication in Madrid, “Tourism Business: Investing in Lithuania”, which identifies Lithuania as one of the most promising European destinations for sustainable investment in the tourism sector. This publication is the first international document of its kind, providing a comprehensive overview of Lithuania’s tourism ecosystem, its maturity and potential, and inviting foreign investors to invest in our country.

"We are proud that the PTO experts assessed Lithuania's potential and selected those from the investment projects submitted by municipalities that could attract foreign investments. The publication not only presents the potential of Lithuania's tourism, but also emphasizes the readiness to accept investments that strengthen the country's regions and communities and create long-term value. With projects worth almost 700 million euros, Lithuania is opening new doors for investors who are attracted by our country's vision of sustainability, innovation and tourism development. We invite the global tourism community to cooperate in creating a competitive and resilient tourism sector," says Guoda Burokienė, Vice Minister of Economy and Innovation.

“Tourism is a strong driver of inclusive and sustainable growth,” says WTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, “Lithuania has made significant progress in positioning this sector among its priorities. At a time when investors are looking for stable and promising locations, Lithuania stands out for its open investment environment. The publication, inviting investors to invest in Lithuania, highlights the country’s growing opportunities. I invite the global tourism community to seize them.”

The publication “Tourism Business: Investing in Lithuania” is free, and is available in both digital and print versions, making it accessible to all. It provides a comprehensive overview of Lithuania’s dynamic tourism sector and highlights how the country’s institutions, advanced digital infrastructure and stable political environment have created a solid foundation for investors seeking long-term, sustainable opportunities. The publication also presents tourism products and experiences, with an emphasis on natural and cultural heritage, health, active, business and other types of tourism.

The publication reviews 14 public, private and mixed projects submitted by the country's municipalities and selected by experts, with a total potential value of up to 692.2 million euros. It is expected that the selected projects for the future of tourism, such as the Nuclear Energy Tourism Center with an exposition, the Wave Park, the adaptation of manors, water towers, spas, monasteries for tourism purposes, the construction of sustainable hotels, wellness and active leisure centers, will interest investors.

The Investment Guide was published with the funds of the WMO, implementing the EIMIN and WMO Action Plan signed in April 2025. Lithuania is an active and valued member of the WMO, significantly contributing to the governance and strategic direction of the Organization. The country currently holds the position of Vice-President of the General Assembly (2025), is a member of the Executive Council (2023–2027), Vice-Chair of the European Regional Commission (2023–2027) and a member of the European Tourism Agenda Working Group (2025–2027). This level of commitment reflects Lithuania's aspiration to promote tourism as a driver of sustainable development and innovation.
