The most original wellness procedures in Biršton: from a hay compress to an oxygen chamber

The cooler weather and the breeze outside the window often make you choose to relax at home.

But the dark period of the year, when there is a lack of active activities outside, can be devoted to nurturing your health and beauty. The sanatoriums and spa centers in Birštona, next to the usual and well-loved massages, wraps, and mud baths, offer you to try extremely original or even strange procedures that will not only improve your health but also leave you with impressions you have never experienced anywhere else.

"Birštonas is famous for its mineral water springs, healing mud, and clean air, so it is no coincidence that there are many health and beauty treatments here. We are the only ones in Lithuania to have a barochamber, 70-mineral water therapy, dry mineral water, and other unique and health-benefiting procedures, and this time of year is just the right time to immerse yourself in the pleasures of a spa," says Rūta Kapačinskaitė, director of the Birštonas Tourism Information Center.

Antanas Danys, deputy director for medicine at Versmė sanatorium, says that Lithuanians are increasingly concerned about their health and well-being. However, the doctor observes with dismay the trend of people coming for short-term treatments of a day or two. "If we aim for the effect of spa healing factors, such as healing mineral water and healing mud, a longer course of 8-10 of these procedures is absolutely necessary, rather than single short treatment procedures," assures A. Danys.

Weightlessness, oxygen, and 70 minerals

It feels like being submerged 10 meters underwater. Such an immersion effect is created by a special hyperbaric oxygenation chamber (barochamber), the only one in Lithuania. Lack of energy, health problems after surgery, facial swelling, or sagging skin - all these are quickly corrected by oxygen therapy. Everything is happening and it looks like preparing for a trip to space. Guests (after a doctor's consultation) are seated in specially tailored suits in a small chamber for ten people, a mask is put on them, through which pure medical oxygen is gradually breathed, and after an hour they "emerge" feeling a surge of energy and a good mood.

A similar state of weightlessness is also immersed in the secondary Dead Sea - Flow therapy, which has no analogues in the Baltic States and uses the purest and purest "Sofia" spring water with 70 active minerals. In their unique form, they are absorbed directly at the cellular level. In 20 minutes in a state of weightlessness, the body's skin, muscles, joints, and the whole body absorb as many microelements as it cannot get in any other form, and floating in mineral-rich water allows you to completely relax and enjoy life.

Lithuanian ingredients for health

"Sophia" dry mineral water is used in "Flow" therapy - a beauty product extracted exclusively from Birštona, named in honor of Sofijas Vytautaitė, the daughter of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas. Birštona has been visited by Lithuanian rulers for a long time, so this resort is called royal, and this year it also celebrates the 640th anniversary of the mention of the name.

"Sophia" is a unique natural product made from extremely highly mineralized Birštonas brine, which has a mineral concentration 13 times higher than drinking mineral water. This brine is extracted from a 715 m deep well in Biršton. It contains up to 70 types of trace elements and minerals: magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc, iron, and iodine salts, which have a positive effect on our well-being. This tool is effective in fighting skin aging and skin dryness and is used in body wraps and scrubs.

The childhood dream of getting dirty from head to toe is easily achieved with the signature mud treatment "Versmė", which the sanatorium specialists collectively call "Shrek". This procedure uses natural, ecologically clean, specially prepared Lithuanian therapeutic mud, brownish clay, and therapeutic mineral water, which rejuvenate and soften the skin and improve blood circulation. During the procedure, the patient receives a special bucket of healing mud mixture and can get dirty as needed in the designated cabin, and then wash everything off with fresh water.

Resting on hay not only in the countryside is a great way to relax, enjoy the smell of fragrant hay and strengthen your immune system. It has long been known that hay compress has mineralizing properties, strengthens the immune system, and reduces muscle and joint pain. During the procedure, the hay is heated in a special device, it is made into a cushion, on which the guest is laid for 20 minutes, and the memories of the summer meadows pleasantly accompany him for a while longer.

How about without Lithuanian gold - amber? A set of procedures is dedicated to him, which uses the energy of amber accumulated over millions of years to improve health. At Gintaro SPA, a massage is performed on a massage table specially inlaid with Baltic amber and heated by infrared rays. Amber bundles, succinic acid, or powder are used for massages, and guests are treated with amber water after the procedures.
