A sculpture by M. Gaub dedicated to the World Environment Day
The sculpture #ape_tit dedicated to the World Environment Day (celebrated on June 5) is also a coincidence for Birštonas. The sculpture was erected in early summer 2022. The work, created by the Electronics Distributors Association (EPA), depicts a crowned monkey proudly perched on a pile of electronic devices. It symbolizes the habit of the population of our country to accumulate unused, unnecessary, and sometimes faulty electronic devices. Such storage equipment could be donated, sold, repaired and used, and possibly a secure collection system for electronic waste, so that such waste can be recycled. Storing unused appliances in closets or storerooms is of no use to anyone.
Mr. Gaub says that as much as possible, he tries to maintain, manage, repair all the tools he has, tries to buy it from his colleagues cheaper, to give him a second life. They share their work with colleagues according to the available tools, work exchanges take place, and developers come to help each other. According to Gaub, it is beneficial both economically and ecologically, and it is not loaded with rarely used items. He also follows the principles of ecology, sustainability and sharing when choosing household and family items.
To date, M. Gaubas has created over 500 sculptures in wood, stone and bronze, and is the author of 25 personal and more than 70 group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. The sculptor became famous for his sculpture "Lietuvaitė", which depicts a naked, plump woman. Recently, the artist has been most and passionately involved in creating sculptures associated with important signs in the country's history.
