A new Sports and Wellness Center for the Birštonas community and guests

It can accommodate 200 people at a time and up to 300 spectators can watch the events. The multifunctional sports complex already hosts trainings and competitions in various sports, the premises of the center are adapted to meet the needs of the disabled.

The idea to build a new Sports and Wellness Center came in 2011 after noticing a lack of employment and a new all-purpose gym for the local community and visitors in Birštonas during the winter. At the initiative of Birštonas municipality, this idea materialized into a new modern building of 4213 m2, which became the main part of the sports and leisure complex.

“Birštonas municipality has been investing in the resort infrastructure for many years: buildings and streets are being renovated, and we are doing our best to make this resort located in the Nemunas loops attractive and open all year round. Now is the time for the community. I believe that the people of Birštonas will like and discover the new sports complex very soon, because it was built to meet the growing needs of a healthy lifestyle and community, ”said Nijolė Dirginčienė, Mayor of Birštonas Municipality, during the presentation of the Sports and Wellness Center.

The opening event was also attended by Linas Obcarskas, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Lithuania, representatives of various sports federations and associations, members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, members of Birštonas Municipal Council and mayors of other municipalities.

The center is located in a strategically convenient place - Kęstučio str. 14 - near Birštonas gymnasium, stadium, Birštonas sports center and tennis courts. The modern sports complex can train 200 athletes and amateurs from various sports at the same time. On the first floor of the building there is a universal 1,500 m high 8 m high gym for basketball, football, volleyball and other sports with 300 seats. It is easily divided into gyms. In addition to these sports, the hall is suitable for playing table tennis, handball and badminton. On the second floor, 500 m², there is an administration, two halls for table tennis. On the basement floor there is a space of 60 m long treadmills, a 320 m² fitness room with a zone for weightlifters, gyms for dueling and aerobics, as well as changing rooms, showers and a sauna.

The complex also provides for the needs of the disabled, and this object has already been tested by the basketball teams of the Deaf Sports Committee. In 2022, the training of the Lithuanian Deaf Volleyball team is planned here.

The center will also train the Lithuanian women's basketball U16 and U20 national teams, the Lithuanian Futsal (indoor football) national team, and the Lithuanian Veterans Badminton Championship will take place in December. On June 9-12, during the Birštonas City Festival, the Sports and Wellness Center will become the competition center of the Lithuanian Balloon Championship .
