TIME AND ART IN BIRŠTONAS

TIME AND ART IN BIRŠTONAS
On 24 September 2009, the participants of the "Time and Art" event were welcomed by Dr. Jonas Basanavičius (actor Andrius Žiurauskas), who told them about his acquaintance and friendship with the sculptor Antanas Aleksandravičius, who had created a lot of his bust sculptures.

The Birštonas Tourism Information Centre has prepared a special publication, entitled "Sculptures in Birštonas" (designed by Albinas Šimanauskas), which introduces the new role of the Baby Whale (a character created for children in 2008) – a Whale-Sculptor.

Metal and carbon steel plates with information in Lithuanian and English have been installed with every sculpture.

There are plans for the near future to have a Sculpture Path begin or end at the Summer Stage. This new path will be laid in 2009–2011. The ideas of the sculptor Andrius Siderkevičius concerning the first sculpture on the future Sculpture Path – a sundial – were presented in the event. This part of the event was held in a pavilion on the Summer Stage decorated by a piece of painting representing the theme of time and art as created by professional painters and young artists from Birštonas.

Painters Lena Chvičija, Marius Danys and Arvydas Kašauskas and ceramist Jurga Braziūnienė shared their secrets of art with children from the resort town. A "sound sculpture" performance by a post-folklore band "Donis" crowned the evening. The multi-instrumentalist Donatas Bielkauskas invited everyone to travel along the road of time and the art of music.
