Birštonas, which occupies the first position in terms of renewable energy, has installed a new luminaire route with solar modules.

From this year until 2030, in order for Lithuania to activate green energy on a national scale, the active involvement of all municipalities has become a very important factor. It is for this reason that for the second year in a row, the Lithuanian Energy Agency is assessing the progress of all municipalities in terms of energy efficiency. In 2020, Birštonas was among the leaders for the second time, which at the end of last year managed to take an important step and install a new luminaire track with solar modules.
"The needs of both residents and resort guests are growing. The resorts aim to relax from the noise of the big cities, breathe the fresh air and enjoy the riches of nature. Therefore, it is important to conserve resources and further increase the awareness of the population by encouraging their involvement in taking similar alternatives to the use of renewable energy sources, which are very important in ensuring a suitable environment for future generations, ”says Nijolė Dirginčienė, Mayor of Birštonas.
According to her, such an approach led Birštonas municipality to choose luminaires with solar energy elements for partial lighting. A new route with fifty uniquely designed lighting fixtures is installed on the pedestrian and bicycle path from the Norfa shopping center to the entrance to the territory of the JV Birštonas City Management Service in Škėvonių village. Last autumn, the largest route of luminaires with solar modules was installed in the village of Geležūnai in Birštonas eldership.
Elmantas Mickevičius, one of the project implementers and the head of BIPA's innovation and electronics department, is convinced that ecological lighting solves not only the problem of electricity consumption. It also reduces installation costs, as no wiring is required to install such luminaires.
"In the future, in general, the entire infrastructure should be wireless, because the construction of wired systems requires additional human resources, design, coordination and time costs. In addition, the infrastructure does not allow for standard lighting solutions everywhere. The fact that such solutions are needed proved and this winter during the snowfall due to falling trees cut off power lines, when as many as 55 thousand. households were left without electricity. Therefore, renewable energy solutions should be implemented not only by municipalities, but also by the residents themselves in a systematic transition to self-produced solar or wind energy. The whole world is modernizing, if necessary, the Internet of Things is connected and it works as well as possible, ”says BIPA's innovation and electronics expert. He has no doubt that together with the involvement of all municipalities, Lithuania will make significant progress in both infrastructure solutions and green energy in the next decade.
According to the reform and investment package of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania “Economic Recovery and Resilience Fund: Green Transformation” (RRF), it is planned to distribute LTL 2.225 billion to the municipalities of the Republic of Lithuania. green energy solutions. Until February 16. All interested parties, as well as municipalities, may submit their proposals to the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania regarding the prepared reforms in the field of energy, which are planned to be financed from the Economic Resilience and Enhancement Fund.
According to the public data of the Lithuanian Energy Agency, currently the municipalities are still halfway through green energy issues - out of 100 possible points, the highest overall rating is 55.
