The 17th Gloria Deo religious art exhibition of Catholic artists has already opened in Biršton

2022/11/28 Culture

On November 27, the first Sunday of Advent, the religious art exhibition "Gloria Deo" was opened for visitors in the Birštonas Sacred Museum.

As the Nativity of Christ is approaching, the exhibition has been organized in Biršton for twenty years. This tradition of holding religious art exhibitions goes back to the interwar period, around 1935-1940, when Catholic intellectuals founded the Church Art Museum in the premises of the Kaunas Seminary. In 1994, the tradition of organizing religious art exhibitions was restored by art critic prof. L. Šinkūnaitė.
Since 2002, the Birštonas Sacred Museum has been gathering Lithuanian artists who create meaningful art with religious insights and content. It helps the people of today to better understand and feel the spiritual, invisible, indescribable world of God. God has given the artist the talent to find new aspects of truth and beauty, he is given the grace of vision that other people do not have, he is destined to show and teach others things that we would not find in any other way. Inspired by the creator, the artist expresses the harmony of space, shapes, lines, and colors.
From St. John Paul II's Letter to Artists (1999): "Each true form of art is in its own way a path to the deepest reality of man and the world." As such, it is a very valuable access to the horizon of faith where the whole meaning of human existence is revealed. It is for this reason that the fullness of the truth presented by the Gospel should be of interest to artists from the very beginning, who are naturally receptive to all manifestations of the inner beauty of reality."

To the invitation to participate in 2022 61 artists who submitted 102 works responded to the exhibition.
The exhibition will run until 2023. February 2 Visits are free during the museum's working hours: from Tuesday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
