Daumantas Kirilauskas (piano)

Program: Johann Sebastian Bach - French Suite no. 4, Es Major, BWV 815, Johann Sebastian Bach - French Suite no. 2, in C minor, BWV 813, Franz Schubert - Sonata no. 5, As-major, D 557, Franz Liszt - Sonata in H minor

JS Bach occupies one of the most important places in Daumantas Kirilauskas' repertoire. The pianist has recorded and released three piano concerts by JS Bach, all six of them. The natural progression follows the path of the storyline genre as well. Two "French suites", which are also six, no. 3 and no. 6, performed in 2017. Two more will be heard this year: no. 4 and no. 2. The five "French suites" are included in the educational repertoire book compiled by Anna Magdalena. However, according to the world's greatest pianists, these are suites that require the highest levels of craftsmanship.

F. Schubert's Sonata in As major is one of the composer's early sonatas written in the form of classical sonata. Already in early sonatas, their originality, new, fresh, independent sound is palpable. Despite being an early sonatas, Schubert's maturity is felt: five symphonies, four "singspiels" and a number of songs have been written so far.

F. Liszt's Sonata in H minor is undoubtedly the most mature work of this Hungarian virtuoso romantic, proving his creative powers. Recognized as the most magnificent sonata for piano created after Van Beethoven's time, it is performed even today by pianists who usually ignore the late Liszt's work. For pianist Daumantas Kirilauskas, this is a return to performing this sonata after nineteen years.
