about

We kindly invite you to a meeting with writer, poet, publicist, and reviewer of the magazine "Verslo klasė" Arūnas Spraunis on November 13 (Thursday) at 6 p.m. at the Birštonas Public Library (S. Dariaus and S. Girėno sts. 12). During the evening, we will talk about creativity, life, literature, and art.

Arūnas Spraunius was born in Raseiniai. He graduated from the then Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute as a teacher of Lithuanian language and literature. He taught, worked as a correspondent for various publications, and prepared international political commentaries for the news portal DELFI and "Žinių radija". On this radio station, he hosted the polemical show "Dvi pušių".

He has published several collections of poems: " Exaltations " (1998), "The Kingdom of Self-Contempt" (1999), "Sunny Beaches of Leta" (2004), "Terribly Heroically" (2012). His work is characterized by fragmented phrases, prose language, attention to detail, they vary the paradoxes of everyday situations, quote and parody elements of mass culture. In the novel Sulamita (1996), he depicted a dramatic love story of a young girl in traditional stylistics. He has published a collection of short stories "Silence!" (2003), a collection of essays "Professional Greed; We Are the Children of Alcoholics" (2007), a novel "Story of a Driver Sofia" (2011), a non-fiction book "Energetiniai karai" (2013), and a collection of 99: selected texts (2015).

The author's style, which creates prose and poetry, is characterized by constructiveness, irony, and elements of the absurd. Seeing the intrigue, he often intertwines the facts of distant history with present-day events; highlighting the characters' characters - gives them contrasting features and unexpected actions. "A. Spraunius is one of the few who, after independence, tried to write differently, in a new way, as adequately as possible to the situation of our time, which was and most likely will remain essentially described by the concept of postmodernism" (Antanas A. Jonynas).

Arūnas Spraunius, known as a publicist and columnist, uses his sharp, intellectual gaze to explore complex social, geopolitical, ethical, and cultural topics in his texts. His reviews are characterized by a critical, philosophical approach and an ambiguous tone that encourages readers to distance themselves from everyday life and reflect more deeply on issues of morality, ethics, and the evolution of society.
