about
Antanas Venslavičius (1939-2025) was born in the village of Šaltinėnai. The author's passion for drawing became apparent in elementary school. He painted landscapes, still lifes, and portraits both at home and while serving in the military. Later, he began carving. Since 1982, he has been working as a woodcarver at the Kaunas Industrial Complex "Dailė". He created crosses, chapel pillars, and Rūpintojėliai during the Soviet era, for which he was repeatedly warned by Soviet activists. About twenty of his works have been created in the Nemajūnai cemetery, others are scattered around the Birštonas, Prienai, and Punia areas. He has created about a hundred large works. He has participated in several international woodcarving symposiums in Lithuania and Poland, and since 1984, more than one exhibition of his works has been organized.
In 2003, he made copies of two typical Nemajuanai cemetery crosses.
The exhibition features 26 works by the author: wooden sculptures, spindles, and oil paintings.
