East meets West (Lithuania-Switzerland)
Eugenijus Jonavičius (guitar) and
Jazz Group Sirens (Switzerland):
Roman Glaser (flute)
Herbie Kopf (bass)
Tony Renold (percussion)
The Swiss Jazz Group Sirens symbolizes the subtle art of musical seduction. Since ancient times, sirens have been synonymous with dangerous beauty that is difficult to avoid. The Sirens group is astonished by the sophisticated sounds, ingenuity, abundance of ideas and thus engages the audience in the magical universe. Refined rape-like compositions contrast with charming miniatures and sharp improvisations. Launching rhythms, lyrical moments and a good pinch of humor are essential ingredients in this music. All the performers contribute to the expressive sound of the group.
When and how does the East meet the West? The four performers of this project unite more than music. In 2019, it turns 20 years since three Swiss Sirens - Roman Glaser, Herbie Kopf and Tony Renold - first visited Lithuania and participated in a jazz festival. During the concerts, they met Eugenijus Jonavičius, a friend of music. The guitar virtuoso joined the jazz trio and soon they started to perform in the Baltic States and Switzerland. To celebrate their anniversary together, the performers decided to organize concert tours in Lithuania this spring and in Switzerland this autumn.
