The film is based on the book "Case Story: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier." The film tells the story of Deborah E. Lipstadt (Rachel Weisz)'s case for historical truth against David Irving (Timothy Spall), who accused her of defamation when she accused him of denying the Holocaust.
