about

We kindly invite you to the presentation of the book "How I Thrown" by Sigitas Parulskis, writer, laureate of the National Culture and Art Prize, on October 23 (Thursday) at 5:00 PM at the Birštonas Public Library (S. Dariaus and S. Girėno sts. 12). This is an event of the project "Sustainability Practice: Ecosophical and Cultural Dialogue", which aims to expand the cultural, general, and identity (positive thinking, sustainability, etc.) competencies of local communities.

As the writer himself says, "this book is about a man who has decided to quit smoking, and this decision takes him very far: into the past, into memory, into a melancholic and joyful experience, into a journey of imagination that sometimes exceeds the limits of decency. And I want to invite others on this journey, no matter how egotistical I may be." Ironic, observant, not afraid to evaluate and self-evaluate, Sigitas Parulskis is considered a modern-day classic - for his innovative literary work, which combines different layers of social and individual experience, and for the renewal of his style, he was awarded the National Culture and Art Prize. He has received the Zigmas Gėlė Prize for his literary debut, the prestigious Jotvingiai Prize for the poems in the book "The Dead", the St. Kristoforas Award for his debut in theatre, Lithuanian Writers' Union Award for the book "Three Seconds of Heaven", Best Book Award for "Snail with a Baseball Bat", international awards - "Die Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung", LCB, "Bank Austria Literaris", "Kulturkontakt", Artmann Scholarship.

Sigitas Parulskis is presented as a creator without frames. He is a poet, essayist, playwright, translator, critic. A writer whose latest books are eagerly awaited by readers, and those who do not read books look for his messages on social networks and the media. A person who is able not only to accurately reflect the time we live in, but also to predict the future. Creativity, writing is his daily need, necessity and state, helping to release thoughts that have accumulated inside and often do not fit in. “Through writing, I understand the world and myself, I recognize humanity, the meaning of life or at least its possibility,” says the writer. Sigitas Parulskis graduated from Vilnius University with a degree in Lithuanian language and literature, and later worked in cultural and literary publications. The writer’s collection includes 20 books, translated into Latvian, Finnish, Italian, Polish, Czech, French, German, Greek, Swedish, Norwegian, Russian, English and other languages.
