Folk artist Rimantė Butkuvė was born near the Apylaukis estate, in the Kėdainiai District. She grew up and attended school in Kaunas. While at school, she became interested in poetry, theatre and painting, and was also very fond of books. Rimantė chose her profession as a carver accidentally. The Union of Folk Artists had asked her to restore a cross. Consequently, Rimantė bought a wood carving from a local folk artist; it was an interesting piece - the Blessed Virgin Mary and an angel kneeling down for  prayer next to a fenced cross. "Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life." This saying by the Chinese philosopher Confucius best describes the life of artist Andrius Lik (born in 1968). He is always smiling, always working, and always full of new ideas. Work is his life, and his life is work. Andrius’s mother recalls that her son made his first carving from a piece of wood when he was just three years old. It was a boat. Since then, he has not parted with woodwork. Nevertheless, when asked whether we know Andrius Lik, for most of us the answer is probably no. Perhaps this is because he generally works silently in his studio and is reticent about his work, which has spread not only across Lithuania, but also to Finland and Hungary.
