Birštonas Mound is one of the destinations of „Žalgirio mūšio kelionių maratonas“ (Grunwald Travel Marathon) arranged by Lithuanian State Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania (hereinafter referred to as LSDT) in commemoration of 600 years anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald, in cooperation with the Polish partner (Polish Tourist organization), to be held from 1 May till 30 September, and aimed to encourage the tourists flows between the countries and to commemorate the 600th  anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald.

This is a new project designed for the Lithuanian and Polish tourists to visit and discover again the medieval castles, get thorough awareness of the countries history and learn more about the victory of the Battle of Grunwald. The project is expected to promote the local tourism between the countries and provide for the opportunity to remember the event of great importance in the Medieval centuries.

In Lithuania the participants of the marathon will be invited to visit Vilnius, Trakai and Medininkai castles, Vytautas the Great Church in Kaunas, the mounds in Birštonas, Merkinė and Veliuona, Birutė Hill in Palanga, the battle field in Pabaiskas and Old Trakai Castle Site. Each of this place reminds of the glorious history of the Grunwald Battle where the leaders resided, ruled, took fights and rest, financed the church building and shaped the impressive mounds.

The Polish partners offers to visit Gdansk, Malbork, Sztum, Kwidzyn, Olsztyn, Ryn, Torun, Plock, Cracow and Grunwald.

The participants proving visits to the most of the destinations will be awarded with special prizes established by LSDT and the sponsors.

The game contest will be held till 30 September. For participation it is required to get registered online at the website www.zalgiriomaratonas.lt. To become a candidate for the Grand Prize it is required to visit 10 historical destinations in Lithuania, prove it with your personal photo at the certain destinations, upload to the named website and you are here. All registered participants will have a chance to take part in additional contests.
